Accessibility Policy

Transition Elevated is committed to ensuring that our website, utahtransitionelevated.org, is accessible to all users, including individuals with disabilities. We believe that everyone deserves equal access to information about postsecondary transition, and we work continuously to improve the accessibility of our digital content.

1. Our Accessibility Standard

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities, including users who rely on:

  • Keyboard-only navigation
  • Voice control software
  • Display settings such as high contrast or large text
  • Captions and audio descriptions for multimedia content

We also comply with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act and the accessibility requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

2. Accessibility Features of This Website

We have implemented a number of features to make this site accessible:

2.1 Navigation and Structure

  • All pages include a logical heading hierarchy (H1 through H4) to aid screen reader navigation.
  • A "Skip to main content" link is available to keyboard users to bypass repetitive navigation.
  • All navigation menus are keyboard-accessible and include appropriate ARIA roles and labels.
  • Focus indicators are visible on all interactive elements.

2.2 Images and Media

  • All meaningful images include descriptive alt text. Decorative images use empty alt="" so they are ignored by screen readers.
  • Videos embedded on this site include closed captions where available. We are actively working to add captions to all video content.
  • No content flashes more than three times per second, in accordance with WCAG guidelines for seizure safety.

2.3 Color and Contrast

  • Text throughout the site meets or exceeds the WCAG AA minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 against its background.
  • Color is never the sole means of conveying information—icons, labels, and text are used alongside color cues.

2.4 Forms and Interactive Elements

  • All form fields have clearly associated labels programmatically linked via for and id attributes.
  • Required fields are identified both visually and with ARIA attributes.
  • Error messages are descriptive and associated with the field in question.

2.5 Responsive Design

  • The site is fully responsive and adapts to a wide range of screen sizes and orientations.
  • Text can be resized up to 200% without loss of content or functionality.
  • No horizontal scrolling is required at standard viewport widths.

3. Known Limitations

While we strive for full accessibility, some areas of this site may not yet meet all WCAG 2.1 Level AA criteria. Known limitations include:

  • Third-party content: Some embedded tools, videos, and external resources (such as linked PDFs or partner websites) may not fully conform to our accessibility standards. We encourage partners to maintain accessible content and provide alternatives where possible.
  • Older PDF documents: Some downloadable documents created before our current accessibility standards were in place may not be fully accessible. Please contact us if you need an accessible version of any document.

We are actively working to address these limitations and prioritize fixes based on impact to users.
